Fresh after the release of this latest tracks ‘Gully / Away’, Frankee stopped by to talk to us.
Hi Frankee, how’s it going?
All good here, staying busy and being good.
Can you give us the back story to your tracks ‘Gully / Away’?
I made ‘Away’ early last year. It was actually part of the batch of tunes that got me signed to Ram. Its an example of my more chilled out side. I had the instrumental done but really wanted a good vocal on it. In came Janine Small, after a couple of days she sent back some acapellas that just blew me away (no pun intended). ‘Gully’ was a very quick fire session, maybe a few days and it was wrapped up. I made it a few months back and i think the guys at Ram instantly loved it and just wanted to fire it out. I wanted to try something a little different and not just stay formulated, I think it stands out nicely.
Your first release was back in 2010, how do you feel you have progressed as an artist since then?
I feel I have definitely stepped my game up in all respects. Now there are big projects and things to work on I feel myself treating the music more like a career than just a hobby. Don’t get me wrong, I still love what I do just as much as I did ten years ago. I think the music speaks for itself really. In regards to live performance, I’m always pushing myself to take that next step up. Adding a 3rd deck and using the USB Rekordbox setup has brought a new creative aspect to DJing that I didn’t have before.

How has the journey been, what have been the highlights?
The journey has been immense so far! I’ve travelled to loads of different countries i would have never seen before, I’ve met some amazing people, accomplished some life goals/dreams of mine. Picking a highlight out of everything that’s happened is impossible I’m afraid.
What software / hardware do you use in your studio?
Im all in the box. I use A Macbook pro with Logic and a host of third party plugins. monitors are Mackie HR824s and I have some Sony headphones for tracking and AKG headphones for referencing.
What do you get up to away from Drum & Bass?
I work in the day as a gardener but if I’m not doing that I’ll either be out with mates or just generally chilling out.
Can you tell us a random fact about yourself?
I literally live on sparkling water, ask my flatmate.
What’s up and coming for you next?
Loads more music and loads more performing.
