i-D Meets: Icelandic Hip Hop

Cast aside all those preconceptions about elves and ethereal folk music, because hip-hop is big in Iceland. Sure, Sigur Ros are still helping us sleep every night and yes, Bjork remains their musical mother, but the nation's children have grown up to explore new musical worlds. Join i-D as we descend on Downtown Reykjavik to meet the coolest artists in the scene and discover what it means to grow up in a country with a population the size of Coventry.

After hiking through Reykjadalur valley, the fashion-forward Sturla Atlas boys jump into the natural hot springs and fill us in on everything 101. Your best Internet friend GKR opens up his studio door and his heart as he shares his colourful, game-changing music. Night falls but the sun never sets and all-female rap crew Reykjavikurdaetur celebrate their album launch at PrikiĆ°, Reykjavik's oldest coffee house turned tiny debauched nightclub. This is hip-hop in the land of ice and fire. It’s lit.
