In one of my moments of either curiosity or stupidity I watched a very popular and award winning documentary called Modify. I thought it would be like a TLC show, bloody and disturbing but with plenty of the real gore left to the imagination.
Well surprise surprise I saw so many mutilated, altered, piercing and damaged body parts that I wanted to cry and throw up and hide.
Let us
That being said, do not think I do not believe that this film should show that, as I am an advocate of free speech and creation so yay brave film makers and sitting through many a bloody session of surgery, cutting and whatever else.
The film tries to cover a lot of ground, which is good to see, from
So here is my review, do not watch if you are at all squeamish, just don't even try. Learn more about specific things that people do, because the documentary just can not go into depth about these practices specifically.
The documentary is good, it bounces around a bit but it makes a good point and it talks to a very good variety of people that have had modifications or do them for a living. And not surprising most of the people are very intelligent and pretty normal, they just enjoy doing off beat things to their body or other peoples.
I guess I could suggest this to parents who think their daughters tattoo of a nautical star *ahem* is relatively normal compared to what many others do. It also made me feel a little more comfortable at the prospect of more tattoos and that I should embrace the art forms I like rather than worry about what everyone else thinks. I mean Stalking Cat has changed his entire body to look more like a tiger due to Native spiritual beliefs, so a few tattoos on my legs probably will not upset the masses too much.
So there you are, Modify, which I think was worth watching, I will not again, and it is still up in the air if I'll have plastic surgery nightmares or nightmares due to images of a mans pierced junk....I really could have gone my life not truly knowing what a Prince Albert looks like.
That's all folks!
