Lola Dupre’s “Discovery” at CES Contemporary

While Lola Dupre (featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 28) is primarily known for distorting photographs through hand-cut collage in lieu of digital manipulation, the artist recently presented an entire series of abstract pieces at Los Angeles’s CES Contemporary for her solo show, “Discovery.” One can imagine each snip of Dupre’s scissors when viewing this detailed body of work. The geometric shapes are made up of tiny, monochromatic particles, each one laid down and glued by hand. Influenced by Op Art, some of the more high-contrast pieces are dizzying and disorienting with their interplay of black and white. “Discovery” is on view through May 10.
