Despite the incredible hardships that Haitians have endured throughout the years, they have as a people demonstrated an incredible resilience and joie de vivre. This passion for life and positive outlook is particularly clear in the country's love of music.
In the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, a community of DJs emerged at
the turn of the decade, and in recent years a large, diverse audience
of partygoers has developed around them.
This growing nightlife and music movement, which brings people from all socioeconomic classes together to dance
and enjoy electronic music, has only strengthened since the
catastrophic earthquake of 2010. THUMP explores Port-au-Prince's music
and dance movements and meets some of the city's most influential DJs to
learn about their unique sounds, motivations, and the future of Haitian
music.
