The MC Fats Collective – We Gotcha LP 1

The first of two 16 track albums in support of the legend that is MC Fats. Look out for this release on 16.05.2014.

By now most people within the Drum & Bass fraternity have heard of MC Fats recent struggle with illness. At the time of writing he has been back in Hospital for a third operation, and we all wish him a speedy recovery. With that in mind, his illness has created a sense of unity and strength in the face of adversity. Bringing together such a range of talented and well respected artists to contribute to the album, is in itself a tribute to Fats. That being said, the music does the talking just as well.

Random Movement’s remix of Lovin is a superb start to the album. Awash with sentiment and hope, it is a fitting way to begin the album. As you would expect, Fats soulful voice rises majestically over Random Movement’s soothing melodies. Bailey also chips in with a liquidy number, ‘For the Love’ continuing the tranquil feel that epitomises the start of the album. The legendary John B also adds to the musical vibe, taking Fats vocals and adding his own synth twist to another liquid roller. Added to this come efforts from Eveson, Crix and A Sides with Cleveland Watkiss, and you have enough liquid to be a successful album in its own right.

Don’t be fooled into thinking the album is something of a one trick pony though. For those of a deeper persuasion, look no further than the superb Starchaser, or perhaps Will Miles’ ‘The Last Breath’. Two bouncier numbers, laden with dancefloor aimed intent. Unsurprisingly, Alix Perez’s collaboration with Fats also falls into this deeper category, as does former half of Need for Mirrors HLZ’s.

On top of the deeper bits comes a few slices of pure dancefloor tunes. DJ SS lends his hand to revival, whilst Czekki and Cabin Fever add two superbly fun remixes of A Sides and Fats collabs. Finally Sub low heavyweights Break and Die bring something completely different to the table with Foundation Dub (hint, it’s a dub tune), whilst the diversity is completely by Squarewave’s housey number.

The fact that the voice of MC Fats works perfectly over such a diverse range of music speaks volumes about his talent, and is a marker for all up and coming MCs to look up to. All the proceeds from the album go to the man himself, so I can only urge you to buy the album if you like it. You can pre-order now on iTunes.
